ABOUT THE WINERY
Our philosophy at Joyce Wine Co. is simple. We’re committed to organic farming across the board, from our estate vineyards to the trusted growers we work alongside. We also believe that practicing sustainability in all aspects of production is fundamental and that is why we produce, bottle and store all of our product at our estate winery in Arroyo Seco AVA in Monterey County. We are dedicated to producing wines of place. We feel that our wines should be a reflection of the terroir and not the cellar. We believe all additives, such as acidification, enzymes, cultured yeast and cultured bacteria should be avoided at all costs in our pursuit of the greatest expression of terroir. To produce these types of wines it requires a fanatical attention to detail which we are committed to. Our ultimate goal is to create wines that are a transparent reflection of our home here in Monterey County.
THE WINEMAKER
Russell, born in 1986, grew up working on his family’s small vineyard. From pulling weeds and hand-terracing vineyard rows to pressing grapes in the small micro-winery on the property, a passion for winemaking was quietly taking root—long before he even realized it.
A self-taught winemaker, Russell has dedicated his entire adult life to pursuing his dream of building Joyce Winery into a sustainable winery that he hopes to one day share with his children. Along the way, he worked day jobs in produce and metal fabrication in the Salinas Valley to help pay the bills, but his commitment to winemaking never wavered.
Beyond the vineyard, Russell is an avid motorcyclist, scuba diver, fisherman and surfer who takes full advantage of the stunning landscape of Monterey County he proudly calls home.
