Valle dell’Acate has made wine since 1870, when Giuseppe Jacono founded the estate in the contrade Biddine Soprana and Sottana, in the province of Ragusa in south-eastern Sicily. At the time, nearby Vittoria was the island’s busiest hub for shipping Frappato to France. Six generations later, the estate is led by Gaetana Jacono, who joined in 1995 and has brought Frappato to an international audience — the wines are now sold in more than 30 markets.
The focus is squarely on the native grapes of south-eastern Sicily — Frappato, Nero d’Avola and Grillo — and on the estate’s two flagship appellations: Frappato di Vittoria DOC and Cerasuolo di Vittoria DOCG, Sicily’s only DOCG.
7 Soils for 7 Wines. More than fifty years of study have mapped seven distinct soil types across the estate, from black soils with large pebbles to red-orange sands and white calcareous earth. Each wine is matched to the soil that suits it best, giving every label — especially the single-vineyard crus — its own soil-driven character.
Sustainability. 70 hectares, certified organic since 2018 and VIVA Sustainable Wine certified. Irrigation is managed with smart sensors and AI models developed with the Sicilian Centre of Nuclear Physics and Structure of Matter, and the estate is a founding member of the “Case di Biddini” renewable energy community.
