James Rahn began his career in earnest at Café Campagne in Seattle, which is where his quest to understand wine was born. Upon moving back home to Chicago, he honed his craft as a Sommelier at his favorite local spot, Café Matou. Six years later he became the Wine Director at Girl & the Goat, an opportunity that later led to his first minor fray into winemaking as he partnered with Saviah Cellars in Walla Walla to create the house blend for the restaurant.
It didn’t take long for James’ desire to make wine to take hold of him and after another year he found himself on the way to Portland, Oregon working for Ponzi Cellars in the Willamette Valley. Then in 2013, James Rahn Wine Company was started. Since then, James has focused on producing small lots of site-specific wines that include Gamay, Pinot Noir, Pinot Meunier, Pinot Gris, Grüner Veltliner, Trousseau and two sites of Riesling. His hands are on every vine and bottle produced—a testament to his true artisanship. The wines are organic, sustainable and needless to say, absolutely delicious.
