Le Vigne di Zamò’s story began in 1924, when grandfather Luigi started making wine for guests at the family osteria in Manzano. His son Tullio acquired the first five hectares and earned the estate’s first Gambero Rosso Tre Bicchieri with the 1988 Ronco dei Roseti.
Today Pierluigi and Silvano Zamò — with Brigitte and partner Oscar Farinetti — farm 65 hectares across three Friuli Colli Orientali terroirs (Rosazzo, Buttrio and Rocca Bernarda) in the province of Udine. The estate farms with natural methods — manure and humus, mechanical weeding, no synthetic inputs — and celebrated its first certified organic harvest in 2021.
While Friuli is famous for its whites, the Zamò family has long championed reds as well: roughly 40% of plantings are red varieties, well above the regional average, including indigenous Pignolo and Refosco dal Peduncolo Rosso alongside the white vocation of Friulano, Ribolla and Malvasia.
