About the Winery
Because of his passion for Burgundy, Alex Gambal left behind a life in The States in 1993 to dive into this fascinating region with all its challenges and complexity. After attending the viticultural school in Beaune, he created Maison Alex Gambal in 1997 with the goal to express character, terroir and purity of each wine.
“There are no great wines without high quality grapes,” Gambal says – the estate focuses on their small vineyard plots and does all work necessary to have the most physiologically ripe and healthy fruit without the use of chemical fertilizers or sprays. He allows nature to express each vintage uniquely, by using naturally occurring, indigenous yeasts. Gambal makes his wines following Burgundian tradition – whites are barrel fermented and both red and white wines are matured on the lees with just one racking prior to bottling.
Maison Alex Gambal is pragmatic and passionate in the cuverie, cellar and vineyards. They treat each wine as a living product up to its bottling, which is done naturally, by gravity, without filtration and following the phases of the moon.
Maison Alex Gambal now produces 60,000 bottles per year which can be found on tables in twenty countries.
