About the Winery
Fattoria Montellori is located in Fucecchio, a small town in the western part of the province of Florence. Montellori has played an active part in the history of Tuscan wine. The largest vineyards of the Montellori estates, are 12 and 16 hectares respectively, and are located on deep soil of limestone clay loam at 150-200 m above sea level in the township of Cerreto Guidi. This part of Tuscany has long been an area for red wine, and in fact remains part of the territory in which Chianti can officially be produced. The philosophy behind the wines is simple: “work at our best in the vineyard to avoid intervention in the cellar”. Montellori still believes in the production and promotion of very well made Chianti DOCG, the same they try to produce every single day.
The Winemaker
Alessandro Nieri is the owner and winemaker at Fattoria Montellori. He is the fourth generation of the Nieri’s family. Alessandro took over the management of the Montellori estate in 1998 after a having shared these responsibilities with his father, Giuseppe (Bepi) Nieri, for many years. Alessandro has followed in his father’s footsteps, continuing to produce wines that demonstrate a deep understanding of the characteristics and potential of each single vineyard. His vision is clear and simple; he aims to create wines with a unique personality expressing both the family’s working philosophy and the specific character of the soil and climate of their place of origin, the terroir.
