In 1995, Tuscan winemaker Alberto Antonini and young entrepreneur Antonio Morescalchi visited South America’s emerging wine regions. They were captivated by Mendoza’s high-altitude vineyards and dry climate and saw the potential in Malbec, a grape with strong local roots but little global recognition. Unlike others planting Cabernet Sauvignon and Merlot, they focused on Malbec, now Argentina’s signature varietal. They became Terroir Specialists, joined by renowned Tuscan winemaker Attilio Pagli and Argentine agronomist Carlos Vazquez, both instrumental in advancing Argentine viticulture.
