About Giovanni Rosso
Tucked in the heart of of Barolo, the commune of Serralunga d’Alba is home to rich sandstone soil known for giving a unique structure to thin-skinned Nebbiolo. Said to grow fruit on some of the “finest soils in the world,” the winery Giovanni Rossi, like many of Piedmont’s great producers, has had their hands in the vineyards since the 1890s. Giovanni Rosso developed their expertise, in the region by producing terroir-driven red wines at their small, family-owned cantina. Dark tones with hints of cocoa and chocolate. Raspberry, plum and black pepper on the palate with a savoury, juicy finish.
Wine Spectator“Packed with sweet strawberry and cherry flavors, this red also deals leather, tobacco and tar notes from a well-structured deck. Tightens up considerably on the finish, a good sign for future development.” - Bruce Sanderson, December 2017
Vinous Media"Davide Rosso has done a terrific job in taming the firm Serralunga tannins in his 2013 Barolo del Comune di Serralunga d'Alba, a wine that expresses the personality of the village, but in a style that can be enjoyed with minimal cellaring. The 2013 is lifted and gracious. Above all else, the Serralunga is a wine that speaks to balance and harmony above all else, while downplaying some of the typical Serralunga heft, which is fine for a Barolo meant to be enjoyed upon release. Hints of herb, licorice and dried flowers add the closing shades of nuance." - Antonio Galloni, August 2017
